Barmah Forest Strategic Action Plan
Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the draft Strategic Action Plan: Protection of floodplain marshes in Barmah National Park and Barmah Forest Ramsar site [2019-2023].
The draft plan was open for public consultation between 5 April and 30 May 2019, and community members were encouraged to review the draft plan and provide their feedback. This consultation has now closed.
Survey results and submissions received over the eight-week period will help to inform development of the final action plan, prior to its release later this year.
You can find out more about the public consultation process here.
About the draft plan
The four-year action plan outlines management strategies to improve the health of the internationally significant floodplain marshes in the Barmah Forest Ramsar Site and the Barmah National Park.
The draft plan sets out conservation actions to increase the extent and cover of the key wetland species, Moira grass, and associated wetland vegetation. The key conservation strategies include:
- improving current ecological water regimes
- controlling the grazing and impacts of feral horses, feral pigs, deer and goats, and
- managing invasive plants.
